New Hope’s Jeff Alger Honored with Regional Leaders and Innovators Award for Housing Affordability
The City of New Hope is proud to announce that Community Development Specialist Jeff Alger has been recognized by the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce with the 2025 Regional Leaders and Innovators Award for Housing Affordability. The award was presented on Friday, Oct. 31 during a ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Mall of America.
Alger was honored for his leadership and success in advancing New Hope’s Scattered Site Housing Program, an innovative initiative that revitalizes distressed and blighted properties through renovation or reconstruction. The program transforms these properties into high-quality, market-ready homes, strengthening neighborhoods, improving the City’s housing stock and boosting property values. In addition, it contributes to the local economy by generating tax revenue and fostering confidence among residents, developers and investors.
Since taking the helm of the program in 2019, Alger has overseen the acquisition of 19 properties and the construction of 22 new homes, adding more than $4.4 million in assessed value to the City’s tax base. His collaborative approach with developers and contractors ensures each project, from property acquisition to competitive lot sales, is carried out with excellence.
Under Alger’s leadership, the Scattered Site Housing Program has evolved from a program seeking builder participation to one that now attracts four to eight competitive proposals per lot. This remarkable growth reflects his dedication to relationship building, transparency and trust within the development community.
Alger also enhanced the City’s Request for Proposal (RFP) process, prioritizing thoughtful home design, curb appeal, quality materials and long-term value. His vision has resulted in larger, higher-quality homes that elevate neighborhoods and provide both new and existing New Hope families with attractive housing opportunities.
“Jeff’s leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact on our community,” said New Hope Mayor John Elder. “Through his efforts, the Scattered Site Housing Program has become a model for how strategic, community-focused development can strengthen cities from within.”
The City of New Hope congratulates Jeff Alger on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his continued dedication to the growth and vitality of the community.
