2026 Infrastructure Projects Take Shape

2026 Infrastructure Projects Take Shape
Posted on 02/26/2026

Even though winter is still here, the City of New Hope is already preparing for spring and summer construction. The colder months give staff time to design projects, coordinate improvements and finalize plans so work can move forward efficiently once warmer weather arrives.

Several important infrastructure projects are planned for 2026 to keep our streets, sidewalks, trails and utilities safe, accessible and well maintained for years to come.

A NEW SIDEWALK AND TRAIL MANAGEMENT PLAN
For many years, the City has evaluated the condition of its streets through a pavement management plan that helps plan future road improvements. However, that process has not included sidewalks and trails. In 2026, the City will take an important step forward by creating a Sidewalk and Trail Management Plan. Engineering and public works staff will evaluate sidewalks and trails citywide to support long-term planning and budgeting for future replacements and repairs. This plan will be updated annually and will help ensure safe, accessible and well-maintained walking and biking routes
for years to come.

NEW CITY MONUMENT SIGN ALONG 42ND AVENUE
Planning is also underway for a new monument sign along 42nd Avenue, west of Gettysburg Avenue. After exploring multiple locations and designs, staff identified this site as the best location to welcome people entering the city along eastbound 42nd Avenue, including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians using the trail.

The monument will be about 17 feet tall and feature brick and stone with decorative metal accents that match the city’s streetscape. As part of the project, new boulevard trees and decorative lighting will be added from Gettysburg Avenue to the monument, continuing the improvements already in place along 42nd Avenue

2026 STREET AND UTILITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
The City is also preparing a major street and utility improvement project for 2026. Five areas were selected based on street conditions and geotechnical studies completed in 2025:

  • St. Raphael neighborhood, south of Elm Grove Park
  • 59th Avenue North and Wisconsin Avenue North, north of the golf course
  • 62nd Avenue North from the city limits to Boone Avenue North, and from Winnetka Avenue North to Louisiana Avenue North
  • Zealand Avenue North between 55th Avenue North and Bass Lake Road
  • Nevada Avenue North near Fred Sims Park, from 42nd Avenue North to 46th Avenue North

Improvements will include street reconstruction, utility upgrades and park improvements, such as better stormwater drainage near Meadow Lake.

As planning continues, the City will share additional details about timelines, potential construction impacts and opportunities for public input. We appreciate residents’ patience during construction season and look forward to delivering improvements that strengthen and enhance our community.
