Voting in the Nov. 3 General Election: What You Need to Know
Posted on 10/15/2026

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, but you don't have to wait until then to cast your ballot. Whether you plan to vote by mail, vote early in person or head to the polls on Election Day, here's what New Hope voters need to know.

VOTE EARLY IN PERSON
New Hope residents can vote early in person at New Hope City Hall, 4401 Xylon Ave N, from Oct. 16 through Nov. 2.

Regular voting hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the following extended hours:

  • Saturday, Oct. 24: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 27: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 31: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 1: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 2: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

VOTE BY MAIL
Any eligible Minnesota voter can vote by mail. Request an absentee ballot online at mnvotes.gov and follow the instructions included with your ballot.

Completed absentee ballots must be received by the following deadlines on Election Day, Nov. 3:

  • Returned by mail: By 8 p.m.
  • Returned in person: By 5 p.m. New Hope City Hall can only accept absentee ballots from New Hope residents.

Absentee ballots cannot be returned to polling places on Election Day.

VOTE ON ELECTION DAY
Polls are open Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters must cast their ballot at the polling place assigned to their residential address. If you're in line by 8 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

Eligible voters can also register or update their registration at their polling place on Election Day with the required proof of residence.

Voting accommodations are available, including curbside voting and ballot-marking machines. Ask an election judge if you need assistance.

PREPARE BEFORE YOU VOTE
A few quick steps can help make your voting experience easier:

  • Check your voter registration. Confirm your registration status before voting. If you’ve moved or changed your name and updated your Minnesota driver’s license or state ID, your voter registration is typically updated automatically. Eligible voters may also register or update their registration when voting by providing the required proof of residence.
  • Find your polling place. If voting on Election Day, check your assigned polling location before heading out. Polling locations can change, and your assigned location depends on your residential address.
  • Preview your ballot. View a sample ballot showing the races and questions you'll vote on. You may bring a printed sample ballot or your own notes when voting. The Nov. 3 General Election includes federal, state, county and local races. New Hope voters will also elect three nonpartisan City Council members: two to four-year terms and one to a two-year term.
