Homestead

After moving into a new home, residents can apply for homestead. Qualifying applicants can receive a market value exclusion, which may reduce their property taxes the following year. Homestead is a Minnesota property tax classification for residential properties occupied as a primary residence by the owner or qualifying relative of the owner.

Applying for Homestead

After closing and moving into a new home, residents can apply for homestead online or in-person.

Apply Online

Residents can apply for homestead online via Hennepin.us/homestead. The application uses a secure server and information will not be shared with outside parties. Residents can also track the status of online applications. A valid email address is required. Note: All applications must include a copy of the deed and certificate of real estate value or the document recording numbers, provided in the closing packet.

If applying online, please stop by City Hall at your convenience to pick up a new resident packet.

In-Person

Bring a copy of the deed and certificate of real estate value, provided in the closing packet, to New Hope City Hall during regular business hours. You will also need to complete a homestead application, available at city hall or by following the link below.
