Construction on the Highway 169 and County Road 9 (Rockford Road/42nd Avenue) interchange between Plymouth and New Hope begins this month. MnDOT is replacing the bridge and reconstructing the interchange at Highway 169 and County Road 9 (Rockford Rd./42nd Ave.) in New Hope and Plymouth.
The project also includes the following:
- Adding additional turn lanes and ramp lanes.
- Adding two new signal systems.
- Replacing existing signals at Nathan Lane and Gettysburg Avenue.
- Adding a new bike and pedestrian trail on both sides of the new bridge.
The City of New Hope will also complete utility improvements on the New Hope side of the bridge along 42nd Avenue.
Bridge Closure Through Fall
Beginning Monday, April 10, crews will close the County Road 9 (Rockford Road/42nd Avenue) bridge over Highway 169 between Nathan/Lancaster lanes and Gettysburg Avenue through fall. All ramps to and from Highway 169 and County Road 9 will also be closed. These closures allow crews to begin work replacing the bridge and rebuilding the interchange.
Alternate routes include Winnetka Avenue, Bass Lake Road and Northwest Boulevard. All businesses in the construction area will remain accessible throughout the closure.
Weekend Closure of Hwy 169 Begins April 14
There will be a full closure of Highway 169 in both directions between I-394 and I-94/I-694 starting at 10 p.m. Friday, April 14, through 5 a.m. Monday, April 17. Crews will use the weekend closure to remove the old bridge and begin building a new one.
If traveling during the closure, alternate routes include:
- Northbound Hwy 169 detour: Use westbound I-394 to northbound I-494 to eastbound I-694/I-94
- Southbound Hwy 169 detour: Use westbound I-694/I-94 to southbound I-494 to westbound I-394
