Summer is here and more people are getting outside, including door-to-door solicitors.

As salespeople are making their way through the streets, it’s important to know the dos and don’ts of solicitation in New Hope.

Before beginning any sales in New Hope:

Upon the city’s approval to solicit, the following practices are prohibited:

  • Disobeying a “No Solicitation” sign posted on private property
  • Obstructing the free flow of vehicular or pedestrian traffic
  • Creating a direct threat to the health, safety or welfare of any individual or the general public
  • Entering residential premises between 8 p.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Harass, intimidate, abuse or threaten a person; continue to offer merchandise for sale to any person after being declined; or refuse to leave premises

Solicitors in violation of those prohibitions can be charged with a petty misdemeanor. If you encounter a solicitor in violation of these prohibited practices, or have concerns regarding a solicitor, dial 911.

Further details can be found in city ordinance Sec. 8-6. - Solicitors, peddlers, hawkers, and transient merchants or in the Resident’s Guide to Solicitors and Peddlers.
