A portion of New Hope's streets are seal coated each year as part of the city's Pavement Management Program. Every street in the city is sealcoated about every five years in order to maximize pavement life.

Seal coating involves the application of a thin layer of liquid asphalt onto the existing pavement surface immediately followed by a thin layer of crushed stone. Before the seal coat is applied, the cracks and potholes in the pavement are filled. After the crushed limestone has had time to settle, a street sweeper is used to remove excess material.

When a street reaches the point where sealcoating is no longer considered cost effective, other alternatives such as mill and overlay or reconstruction must be considered by the city.
