Officers assigned to the Patrol Division respond to 911 calls (emergency and non-emergency), investigate accidents, and enforce traffic laws. All of our police officers are trained in Basic Life Support, and each squad car is equipped with oxygen, first-aid equipment, and a defibrillator. The defibrillators are used on heart attack victims who have gone into cardiac arrest.
The Patrol Division answered over 16,000 calls for service in 2007. Any request for police response (even non-emergency) requires you to dial 911.
The Police Department has several officers trained in Bicycle Patrol. During the warm weather months the Bike Patrol officers patrol New Hope's parks and other high-traffic areas in the City. This allows the officers to patrol areas not accessible by car and provide more opportunities for contact with residents.
The department has two canine officers. The police canines are used for building searches, tracking suspects, and looking for lost people. They are very sociable animals and frequently perform demonstrations at the parks and schools.
New Hope City ordinance requires that all domestic animals (dogs and cats) be kept under control by leashing or fencing. The ordinance also states that, "No owner shall permit barking, howling or other noises that disturb the peace and quiet of the neighborhood." For more information, visit Animal Ordinances. Animal Control services are provided jointly for the cities of New Hope and Crystal. If you require these services, please call 911.
