In 1997 the Community Notification and Registration Act went into effect. This law makes it possible for local law enforcement agencies to release some information to the public regarding sex offenders that was formerly classified as private data. Law enforcement agencies, like the New Hope Police Department, are now informed where sex offenders are living. This makes communication with residents easier concerning the whereabouts of sex offenders in the community.
