Community Gyms

About New Hope's Community Gymnasium

The New Hope Community Gymnasium is attached to the north end of Cooper High School. The facility, which opened in January 2001, was a cooperative venture of the city of New Hope and Robbinsdale Area School District 281. The city provided the school district with $3.25 million to build the facility. Two full-size basketball courts are available for many recreational and athletic activities. Other amenities include a batting cage, storage rooms, concessions area, restrooms, and corridor.

Gym Usage

The facility is used by Cooper High School during school hours for physical education classes and after school for extra curricular activities. The New Hope Parks and Recreation Department has priority use of the gym facilities during the evenings, weekends, non-school days, and summer months.

Supervision

A gym attendant will be assigned to all activities in the gymnasium. This attendant is there to:

• maintain building security
• help set up and take down equipment needed for an activity
• sweep gym floors before, during and after activity
• dispense first aid supplies when needed
• provide general customer service

All user groups are required to provide adequate adult supervision. The person in charge of the group’s supervision must remain with the group at all times and is responsible for the group’s conduct and compliance with all rules and regulations within the facility.

Gym Rules and Regulations

• No food or drink allowed in gyms
• No swinging or dunking on basketball hoops
• Nets and standards should be left as found
• No wet boots or shoes on the gym floor
• Gym shoes only on the gym floor. No black soled shoes or other shoes that leave a mark
• Report any broken equipment or property damage to the gym attendant
• No smoking or possession or consumption of intoxicating substances is allowed in facility or on school grounds
• User groups must provide proper supervision at all times
• For adult activities, children must be accompanied by a non-participating adult. For youth activities, each child not participating in the event must be supervised by an adult
• Entry and exit times must be observed
